1895, France. AUTOMOBILE CLUB DE FRANCE. By Daniel Dupuis. Silver-gilt 68mm. Obv: A nude female reclining on a winged chariot in clouds. Rev: An inscribed cartouche above a cog and set in branches. Extremely fine. $325
Jean-Baptiste, Daniel Dupuis, French painter, sculptor and medallist, was born in 1849. At the age of seventeen he entered l’École Nationale Supérieur des Beaux-Arts. In 1868 he won second prix de Rome for medal engraving and the first Grand Prix de Rome in 1872. He exhibited regularly at the Salon. He was made an officer of the Légion d’Honneur in 1898. Dupuis died in 1899, when he was killed by his wife.
