About Even Keel

Even Keel is a yoga apparel company that specializes in unique designs, beautiful colors, and sustainable fabric. The company was started by Liz Matthews, an avid yoga student and teacher. After observing what people wear to yoga class for almost fifteen years, Liz decided it was time for a new look.

Even Keel brings a balance of style and function to the mat. The colors are rich, the designs are elegant – and all of fabrics are made of bamboo and organic cotton. This fabric blend is incredibly soft, lightweight and breathable. The bamboo has natural anti-bacterial and wicking abilities - important qualities in yoga and exercise apparel.

Even Keel believes strongly in using sustainable fabrics. And all of our clothing is manufactured in the United States.

About Our Name

Liz and her husband and business partner, Franklin Adams, were on their 1979 barely floating sailboat on the Chesapeake Bay trying to come up with a good name for the company. Recognizing how important good balance is for life and yoga, it seemed logical to focus on what helps a sailboat stay balanced through storm and seas. It is the keel that helps to even things out...thus, to keep an Even Keel.

This philosophy is at the core of the company. One of the reasons to practice yoga and to exercise is to help keep a healthy balance in life. And that is what many of us are striving for – balance between work and family, barbeque and tofu, Saturday night and Tuesday morning, opera and rock n’ roll.
